So, The Kubricks finally succumb to blogging.
What’s the point I hear both you and I say, however this is a journey we shall undertake together, learning as we go. I say we, there’s no one actually reading this yet, but take this as a mission statement for what’s to follow.
We shall use this medium to explain some of the things that are going on in the world of The Kubricks, discuss music-related issues and provide information on us and what we’re doing.
So who are The Kubricks?
The Kubricks are a London-based band. The music has ska, jazz, rock and pop influences. Come find us on Facebook here at http://www.facebook.com/thekubricks. We also run our own club night called “Skallywags” which happens every couple of months on a Friday night at The Dublin Castle in Camden Town which champions some of the best live bands London has to offer.
After some success with demos being played on BBC6 Music and BBC Radio Essex, we are currently recording our first album and we’re really pleased with how it’s shaping up. We started demoing the album at our studio last summer and we basically spent every weekend up until January living together and preparing the album. And had lots of BBQs. Our producer, Andrew Tulloch, had taken the time to sit down with us and tell us what we needed to do to get the songs to a stage where he was ready to start working on them. He was a perfect choice for us as he’d worked with some great artists, whose styles were varied - Madness, Faithless, Keane, The Wombats, Sheryl Crow, Nickelback, Dave Liedman etc etc and helped us record the best sounds we could, but most importantly kept it organic.
This weekend we relocated our studio, Jagged Studios, recording a lovely baby grand piano. We’ll start on the vocals next week, so it’s all looking good. Here’s a couple of photos from the sessions so far.
